New Project

Start of a new project

I have started a new cross stitch project.

It’s this one from Modern Folk Embroidery.

I am using a 40 count linen from Zweitgart – I am not sure of the colour possibly ivory – and a silk (au ver à soie) 100/3 colour 650.

I am enjoying 40 count and one strand.

Coaster Stitching is Finished

Coaster

The stitching on the coaster is finished.

I am using 24 count congress, silks and pattern from Beautiful Stitches.

I am planning a second one, but I think I might do my own design.

Stitching Class Project

Start of my new project

I decided to do the class project for my Friday morning stitching group. This term, we are making coasters – we are going to put them in plastic snap frame things.

I am using 24 count congress cloth and silks from Beautiful Stitches.

My plan is to work on this in class (so not at home – I am going to work on Green Gables at home), but I will try to finish the border before next week, so I can learn the next stitch.

Another finish! Cross Stitch

Dame Nature Du Printemps

I finished my cross stitch – Dame Nature Du Printemps. I bought the kit from Jardin Privé.

I did run out of one of the greens, but I had the right shade in my stash.

I started in August 2023 and worked on it (mostly monogamously), so six months from start to finish.

  • 32 count linen (country mocha)
  • DMC floss

Now I am working on this Green Gables cross stitch

Green Gables by Petal Pusher

I am using 32 count linen (Platinum from Zweigart) and DMC floss.

Dame Nature Du Printemps

Dame Nature Du Printemps (from Jardin Privé)

I had to move the hoop so I took the opportunity to take a progress photo. I am probably about two-thirds of the way through. I have been enjoying the process, thinking about the path of the stitches (making sure I don’t stitch myself into a corner).

2023 in Review

Finished Objects 2023

I was a bit more successful this year.

I am going to try to have modest goals next year

  • Finish my Dame Nature Du Printemps cross stitch.
  • Start working on my fabric book of special things – I have quite the collection. I just need to get it clear in my head how I am going to tackle this.
  • Finish my christmas socks and my cashmere socks (one of these is already finished)
  • Knit something with my Advent Calendar yarn.
  • Baby clothes quilt (I am rethinking this whole project – more on that later)
  • Historic Sampler Course (I am doing the Historic Sampler Course at Thistle Threads, so I plan to design and then create a sampler unique to me).

Free Standing Lace

Free Standing Lace – the stars (snowflakes) on the left and the book marks on the right are from Designs by Juju and the stars in the middle are from Urban Threads

I have been enjoying making free standing lace – my machine is coping really well with it. I am going to try earrings next.

I am using the brothread water soluble stabiliser and it’s good (I am using two layers)

Christmas Decorations

Free Standing Lace Star from Urban Threads (Design UT21424)

I thought I would make some Christmas decorations using free standing lace – I have made a couple of these before. This time I have bought some Christmas decoration hangers from Amazon and I will turn them into decorations and give as gifts (small tokens).

I am using two sheets of water soluble stabiliser (the one above is like paper, but I am also using the film version). Embroidery thread (Robinson Anton Candy Apple Red) on top and in the bobbin. I have slowed my machine down to 500 s/min so these take a long time, but they look good.

A short clip of the stitch out because I find it mesmerising.

Dame Nature du Printemps Update

It’s a bit weird because of my magnifier

I have been working on my Dame Nature du Printemps (from Jardin Prive). Progress has been slow – lots of unpicking. I bought this pattern for the sheep and chook, so I am enjoying this bit.

I am using the called for DMC and 32 count linen (colour way mocha – the linen is beautiful).

Dame Nature Du Printemps

Dame Nature Du Temps from Jardin Privé

Any stitching time that I have had, I have been working on my Spring piece from Jardin Privé. To feel less over-whelmed I am being a monogamous stitcher. Progress is very slow. Yesterday I think I achieved 10 stitches (after I had to unpick).

I bought the kit as well as the pattern.
