I have been experimenting with my Cricut to make perforated card for stitching. I found the svg file at Wild Olive.
Here I am doing a bit of stitching on it.
I was thinking, you’re not limited to cross stitch, I could put the holes anywhere.

I have long been fascinated by the idea of reversible cross stitch. More as a brain exercise, but also if you are making something that needs to be double-sided. Plus I have been exploring the idea of paper embroidery – using my cricut to make the holes.
I down loaded the svg file from Wild Olive.
I did end up with the occasional vertical or horizontal stitch on the back. And I do need to plan my path a bit better, but the process was easy to understand.
I used a medium weight card stock, but I think a thicker cardstock would be better.

I did a workshop at the Embroiderer’s Guild of WA.
At first I used glue when I wrapped the fabric around the board, but I hated having sticky fingers, so I switched to double sided tape (acid free) – from here.
I used a curved needle to do the sewing, which was a challenge, but I think I improved by the end.
My box is a weird size – a 15cm cube. What was I thinking? So I am not really sure what to use it for. I have heaps of everything left, so I might try to make a more useful-sized box.

I have been intrigued by paper embroidery (this one is from Flourishing Fibers).
I printed the design, laid it on top of my circle and used an awl to make the holes.
I used Pearl cotton (number 8) instead of stranded floss.

I have been making snowflakes – the file is from here.
These cut very well, but I had trouble getting the glue to stick.
I have tried many different types of glue
But in the end I found an acid free glue applied with a cotton bud worked best.

For my in-person stitching class, we were asked to make name tags. And the lovely teacher, Barbara, suggested a 3D element. There butterflies and dragonflies, but I chose a flower.
The petals are edged with floristry wire, which I then covered in blanket stitch using one strand of DMC cotton.
The centre of the flower is a french knot slip. On another piece of fabric, I draw a circle and covered it in french knots – using Pearl Cotton 8 in two colours. I stitched a running stitch around the circle, stuff it and pulled it tight. And then attached it to the background – (I added the petals after).
My name is stem stitch using pearl cotton 5, and outlined it using a metallic thread.
Feather stitch, stem or vine and a chain stitch border.
I have laced it to a piece of card.

I visited a dear friend who has a Silhouette Cameo and I was very envious – she makes beautiful journals.
Of course, I had to have one. I went with the Cricut Maker 3 because it seems to be the easiest to use. I also bought the Starter Kit.
My first project was floss drops (right image above), super easy to make and to make multiples.
I will be experimenting for a while. I am keen to see how the pens work and how it cuts fabric (I’ve ordered the rotary blade).
I have made another card. This design is from OESD.
Usual set-up:
I have a few birthdays coming up, so I will need to make more.
