My New Toy

I bought the 1/4 inch acufeed foot for my sewing machine. Once I worked out that I needed to change the needle position it all went well. Instead of being at 3.5 it needs to be at 5.5.

Casting On

I’ve started the top – so far so good.

Patchwork Card

I’ve made a patchwork card to go with this quilt present.  I foundation piece the block (using my embroidery machine) and then attach it to the card using double-sided sticky tape.

You can find the embroidery files on my Machine Embroidery Page.

Another Finished Object

I finished the T-Shirt for Miss P.

Here is a close up of the front …

The Water Lily blocks were foundation pieced using my embroidery machine – you can find the design here. I attach the block using a blanket stitch (width 2.5mm and length 1.5mm). I also used Vliesofix to get the appliques to stay in place while stitching.

Machine Embroidery

I like to put little embroidery motifs on the back of my girls’ T-Shirts – like this (see the second image). Last night I embroidered four at once – one for Miss P”s T-Shirt and I can store the others for the next project.

The designs are from Designs By Juju.

Adding Binding (and School is back)

I’m still hand-sewing the binding to the back. As you can see in the image above, I didn’t attach the binding very well (it’s not an accurate 0.25seam).

School has been back for two days and I thought I would have more time to get things done – but I seem to be achieving less. How does that work?

Ipod Touch Calendar Died

I rely completely on the Calendar of my Ipod touch. Today my ipod froze and I had to restore it to it’s factory settings. Then the backup didn’t work (there was some error). Everything else was OK, but not my calendar! All of those appointments and the birthdays!

As you can imagine I wasted a lot of time trying to fix this and didn’t get onto the binding.

Continuous Binding

I like continuous binding, but I always have trouble with the last join. This time I watched a DVD tutorial by Brenda Smith. I watched a bit, did what she did, watched the next bit etc. I achieved perfect results – I didn’t even end up with a pinch in the binding because I put the join in slightly the wrong spot. In fact she made it so clear I’m not sure why I had trouble in the past.

My copy of the DVD came from the latest issue of the Homespun magazine (I know it sounds like I work for this magazine, but I hardly ever buy it. I’ve bought the last two issues for the DVDs).

I’ve still got to hand sew the binding to the back of the quilt, so I shall an image tomorrow of the (hopefully) finished quilt.

I used my acufeed foot to attach the binding, but it was hard to get 0.25 inch seam. I either need to use my patchwork foot or purchase a quarter inch acufeed foot.

Binding

I’ve cut the binding strips for this quilt. I cut two inch strips (rather than 2.5) because I’m not sure if I have enough fabric.

Yesterday I went and saw West Side Story – it was fantastic. I do like a good musical.
