Sewing A Dress!

Miss A was asked to a ’70s party (she had to dress up in ‘olden day’ clothes). Anyway I decided to make her a dress using a psychedelic 70s type print. I picked the above pattern (Burda 9544).

It’s been so long since I made any clothes that it took me two attempts to get the zip in and there is something funny about the shoulder seams, but I was really happy with how it turned out.

Miss P now wants the same dress but in a dinosaur fabric.

Mod 9 Quilt is Finished!

finished_front

I finished my Mod 9 quilt, which was started in August 2008.

Here is the back…

finished_back

I’m reasonably happy with it. My cutting wasn’t fabulous and I was a bit disappointed with my free motion quilting – I should have used white thread instead of purple and I still need to practise more so that the stitches are the same size.

I’m going to use it as a wall hanging so it was probably a bit pointless to piece the back.

Applique T-Shirts

Miss A wanted a Pony T-Shirt.

I’ve put it all together in Embird. The pony and flower are from Designs by Juju. The alphabet I use in the label is one of Embird’s alphabets (22 I think) and I make the satin stitched borders in Thred.

This is Miss P (who – of course – wanted a dinosaur).

The Dinosaur design is also from Designs by Juju.

I’m hoping to get them stitched out tomorrow – Miss A is back at school!

Applique T-Shirt – Baby Gift

A friend had a little boy. I made this T-Shirt …

Here is the back …

The designs are from Designs by JuJu and the T-Shirt is from Blank Clothing. The T-Shirt is lovely, it’s made from organic cotton. Unfortunately it is only available in little sizes (up to 2).

Now my other friends who are having babies know what to expect…

Mod 9 Backing

I’ve sewn the backing together for this quilt.

There was quite a bit of cutting involved. Each of the large purple stripes consists of two parts and the thinner spotty stripes weren’t quite wide enough, so I needed to added extra purple bits on the end.

All the fabric came from my stash!

I then went to this shop and bought 100% cotton batting.

Now for the quilting …

Summer Shirt

I finished my Summer Shirt (from Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross). I used a thicker fabric than recommended because I wanted to wear this in autumn and possibly winter (with something underneath). The thicker cotton made the button loop a bit tricky and in the end I made a wider version than the pattern.

As I know I will never button it up, I didn’t even bother to sew a button on.

The pattern for the sleeves didn’t have the basting marks marked on, so I just made it up as I went along.

This pattern was really easy to sew (and the instructions were easy to follow – once I worked out how to use my bias making tool). I’m sure I will make it again.

Easter T-Shirts

I’ve made the girls Easter T-Shirts. The above is the front of A’s and below is the back.

The Sunbonnet Sue is from here and the flower from here. I didn’t stabilise enough, so the fabric is a bit puckered on the Sunbonnet. I attached the embroideries to the T-Shirt using a small zigzag stitch and Sulky Invisible thread in the needle. This did involve lowering the needle tension quite a bit, but I’m happy with how it turned out.

This is the front of P’s

And the back …

The designs are from the same place.

Applique T-Shirt

Another T-Shirt commission. Here is a closer view of the front …

Here is the back…

And a closer view of the back …

I’m really pleased with how this one turned out – very girly.

The font is Love Letters from GG Designs.

The Strawberry design on the back is from Itty Bitty Spring Fling from Designs By JuJu.

The heart and circle I digitised using Thred.

Tomorrow marks my Second Blog Anniversary and I’m thinking of some kind of give away (probably a T-Shirt like this one).

More Sewing

I’ve traced the pattern and cut the fabric for this blouse …

You can find it in this book.

On a different topic, I’m very excited to hear that Hillary Lang (from Wee Wonderfuls) is writing a book for Melanie Falick.
