Half a sock

image

Half of my second  sock is finished.

I had a little bit of trouble with this sock – I kept knitting only half a round before moving to the next round. In the end I had to rip what I had done and start the whole thing over again. I just couldn’t seem to maintain focus.

While knitting I have been watching the The Paradise on DVD. Definitely recommend it if you like bonnet dramas – it was beautiful to look at, had a bit of romance and intrigue. Now I am going to watch Mr Selfridge .

The Year That Was … 2012

SewWitty's 2012

SewWitty’s 2012

Well another year is ending. When I look back I’m a bit disappointed by my output. Only two quilts were finished and four knitted items. I did try a few things which went no where (February jumper) and I have improved my digitising skills (with little to show for it).

Next year I want to finish

  • Miss A’s Plus Quilt
  • Baby Clothes Quilt
  • Master knitting socks using the magic loop method.
  • Master knitting socks two at a time
  • Attempt colour knitting
  • Finish digitising my foundation quilt blocks and release the set.
  • Start working on a new embroidery set – something modern without too much fill.

Progress

I’m still working away on the Jane cardigan and I’ve decided I need to break things up and get on with some of the other half finished projects – like this quilt …

or this quilt (made from the girls’ baby clothes) …

I’ve also got a bit of digitising to do …

Decision Made

I decided to knit Jane for Miss A. I spent a bit of time switchety swatchety as the girls call it – my third choice of needles finally worked.

I like the way this cardigan is constructed – from the top down and seamlessly.

I’m trying to concentrate on one set of instructions at a time

Hair Clip Production Line

Someone in my house is having a birthday party. I try to – not always successfully – put something hand made into the party bags. The girls and I spent a bit of time making these fabric covered button hair clips. There are two different types because they each wanted to pick some fabric from the stash. They’re quite easy to do (although my thumb is still recovering).

The buttons come from here – I always wait for a sale and then stock up (the service is great and they arrive very quickly).

We’ve been away and it was lovely and relaxing. Quite a bit of time was spent supervising the girls at the pool (indoor and heated), which meant a fair bit of knitting happened. The gull lace scarf is finished – just needs the ends weaved in and to be blocked and about half of Miss P’s sock. Pictures will follow in a day or two.

400 Posts!

This is my 400th post!

What I have enjoyed most about blogging is looking back and seeing firstly what I have done and secondly how I did it. I’ve been blogging for almost 5 years (it will be 5 years on the 18th of March). In that time I have learnt how to free motion quilt, knit socks, foundation piece blocks using my sewing machine and applique. I have bought two new sewing machines (this one and this one), started a home business and stopped, started designing my own quilts and socks and digitising embroidery designs. I think I have narrowed my interests down to quilting, knitting and machine embroidery.

Now the girls are at school full time I think I should be achieving more, but those 6 hours just fly by – it doesn’t help when I do things like go and see this movie (by the way it was very good).

Well, let’s see what the next 400 posts bring!

Audible Books

While sewing or quilting I listen to audio books. I find the books at audible.com and I use the audible app on my ipod to listen to them. This system works well for me – I even wrote a review of the latest ‘reading’.

I thought I would blog about this because it is always nice to know how other people do things.

When I’m knitting I watch DVDs – mostly period dramas (my latest is Downton Abbey – so beautiful).
