L’uccello Haberdashery

I went here while in Melbourne last weekend – it was fabulous. Heaps of things I wanted to purchase, but I was attempting to travel light (only carry on baggage). Above is what I did buy. I plan to make the girls head bands with the ribbons and the fat quarters? Well you can never have too many of those.

I’d love to go to some of their courses … but it doesn’t seem very likely – can’t wait for the online store to be up and running.

New Quilt Design

I’m going to make Miss A a quilt using three fabrics (from my stash) – it is going to consist of big plus signs.

I’m still working on the baby clothes quilt (I cut a few more squares everyday) and the knitting project (I’m about to start knitting the lace pattern), but they are both such big slow-moving projects I wanted something else as well.

Another Baby Quilt

Another baby is on the way – due at the end of February (not me obviously!).

It is 30 charm squares and a white border. I bought the charm squares ages ago from the Fat Quarter Shop (sorry I can’t remember the name). Everything including the backing and wadding came from my stash (slightly embarrassing that I have so much stock piled).

I just quilted it using my swirly free motion quilting (see picture below).

This time I didn’t lower the feed dogs while doing free motion quilting. I read about it here and thought I would experiment. To be honest I can’t see that it made much difference – I won’t be dropping the feed dogs in future. I did change the stitch length to zero and everything seem to work as normal – there are a few places where my stitches are too big, but that will just get better with practice.

This quilt came together really quickly – about 5 hours so far and all I have left is the binding.

Dino Quilt Backing

I made this backing for the dinosaur quilt. All the fabric is from my stash.

I thought Miss P might not be so keen on dinosaurs when she is a bit older. So now she can flip the quilt over and have a more grown up side.

I still have to pin it and quilt it, but I don’t have enough wadding and a trip to the fabric store with two girls is very unappealing, so I will wait until school goes back.

Dinosaur Quilt

The individual blocks are finished. I’m going to use white for the sashing and I’m just waiting for that to arrive (from here).

Quilt Progress

School’s back – both Miss A and Miss P seem happy with their new teachers and classes.

The image above (I don’t want to reveal the whole thing just yet…) is a quilt I’m working on. The fabric is from Materalise – I just bought fat quarter packs.

Can I just say starching the fabric makes everything much easier – the cutting, the sewing and the quilting.

I’ve been doing a bit of blog house keeping, updated the blogroll and changed a few settings (in particular I changed to my local time so it won’t look like I’m posting in the middle of the night!).

Advent Calendar

I’ve decided to make an Advent Calendar – just to put myself under a bit more pressure. I got the idea from here, but it’s developed a mind of it’s own.

Each pocket will have a number embroidered on it. I haven’t quite decided on the position of the pockets yet – the one above is just placed on the quilt.

I’m going to sew buttons onto the tree from which we can hang ornaments (they’ll be stored in the pockets).

The ornaments are going to like this …

The number is on the back of the ornament. There will also be a star, tree and stocking (so six of each type).

I still have all of the pockets and the ornaments to sew as well as quilting the base. So lots to do and not much time.

Yet More Fabric

HotPossumFabric

I can’t seem to help myself – I’ve bought more fabric! I went here for coffee, which is right next door to here. I couldn’t resist buying some fabric (I had already resisted yarn!).

I bought nine fat quarters and I have plans for them (more of that in a different post). However, it will have to wait until I’ve done something with my Japanese Fabric.

More Fabric

Japanese Fabric

My camera went on holiday to Japan (it did a bit of skiing), anyway it bought me back some fabric – Japanese patchwork fabric from the Tokyo National Museum.

I’m still contemplating what to do with it – at this stage I’m thinking about a Disappearing Nine Patch

Nursery Rhyme Fabric Stash

NurseryRhyme

I have accumulated a large amount of Nursery Rhyme/Childrens fabric. I purchased quite a bit thinking I would use it in my T-Shirt business, but I’ve learnt a few things along the way. First, I don’t like doing the same thing over and over again and secondly, the embroidery doesn’t show up very well on busy prints.

I’m thinking about using these fabrics in a simple square quilt.
