New Project Bag

I am determined to turn my stitched pieces into something useful – rather than framing them. Hence the needle book and now a project bag.

The cross stitch is cinnamon stars by Plum Street Samplers. I quilted around the cross stitch, lined the bag with mushroom fabric and added a zip.

This bag is enormous 56cm by 50cm, which means my largest Q Snap should fit.

New Project Bag

New Knitting Project Bag

I made a drawstring bag for my sock projects. The design is from Urban Threads. I stabilised it with calico, but I should have used something more sturdy as there is a bit of puckering.

I used instructions from Martha Stewart to make the bag.

Project Bag

Sock Knitting Project Bag

I have made a new project bag for my sock knitting. I wanted it to fit my knitting (obviously) and an A5 notebook. I also like the zip closure rather than a drawstring.

The machine embroidery design is from Urban Threads.

Another Project Bag

Blustery Tree Project Bag

I finished another project bag – this one took a long time. I did the embroidery way back in May.

It is a bit bigger than my previous project bags – should comfortably fit a jumper under construction.

I have embroidery on both sides and I have quilted the bag.

Another Project Bag

Blustery Tree from Urban Threads

As I have a lot of projects on the go, I need a lot of bags to keep them in! So I am making another project bag. The embroidery design is from Urban Threads (Blustery Winter Tree).

I will quilt it like I did my ‘Field of Flowers‘ and put in a zip. It is slightly bigger than ‘The Field of Flowers’ bag because that one is a bit over-full with my Hansel knitting project.

Field of Flowers Project Bag

Field of Flowers Project Bag

I made myself a new project bag – for my Hansel shawl.

The embroidery is from Urban Threads. I made embroideries for the front and back, then quilted each piece and then made a lined zipper bag.

I might have made it slightly too small – you can see it’s packed, but if it doesn’t work for this project it will work for other projects (maybe a cross stitch project)

Project Bag – Pi

Project Bag

The Pi embroidery is a design I bought from Urban Threads a while ago (maybe a year) with plans to make a project bag. Originally I planned black on white, but then I saw this embroidery and thought white on black was very effective (I have this design too – already stitched out).

I just made a simple lined draw string bag – Martha Stewart has a great video tutorial.

It is the perfect size for a sock project.

Multi-Project Update

Project Bags and a Sock

I have been rotating through my various crafting activities; knitting, sewing/quilting and embroidery.

I decided I needed to make project bags for my various projects – the image top right is my first attempt. It is great – my Live Simply cross stitch fits inside with the chart and my box of floss. However, my A4 pages (in a plastic slip) don’t fit easily inside, so I decided the next one needs to be 2.5cm bigger in both length and width. I have started another one (top left image). Check out the fabric, it’s sheep knitting! The front and the back are quilted and it is fully lined (no raw edges).

I finished one of my after thought heel socks – this is not my favourite technique and I will revert back to normal heels for my next sock (which is going to be Winter Rose Socks – I have joined the hand made sock society and they are going to send me a new pattern bimonthly.)

Wonky House Project Bag

Wonky House Stitching

I bought this design from Urban Threads ages ago, but, like a lot of things, did nothing with it. On the weekend I decided to make another in the hoop zipper bag  – it was a bit of a disaster because I forgot to open the system (and therefore it was forever shut!).

I then had a bit of an epiphany  and thought ‘why don’t I do the embroidery and then make the thing using my normal sewing machine?’.

I wanted a new project bag for my knitting and decided a draw string bag would be ideal.

Martha Stewart has a great tutorial on making draw string bags – super easy and quick.

I have used linen for the bag, which makes for a nice finished product, but the fraying was extreme.

I stitched the embroidery by hooping a tear away stabiliser and floating the linen on top (picking the stabiliser out was a complete pain in the butt – there must be a better way). My machine has a basting function, which stitches the linen to the stabiliser and holds it in place for the embroidery.
