Someone in my house has a big birthday this year, so I thought a pair of socks might be in order (despite the large feet).
I am using a Waikiwi Print in shade 459 (it’s the brown mix). I bought three balls (because of the big feet).
I have done a twisted rib and then it’s going to be a plain vanilla sock.

Nighthawk socks finished
I finished my socks – these have the best gusset and toes of any I have made.
I used the suggestions (for both toes and gusset) in Custom Socks.
I think for my next pair of socks I will try something toe up, but before that I am going to knit the Braid Hills Cardigan – I bought this as a kit two years ago and now I am going to finish it. I have swatched and I seemed to have achieved gauge (I know swatches can lie, so we will see what happens – it is all about the process).

Finished
I finished the socks – first project completed for 2016. It is the Basic Ribbed Sock from Kate Atherley’s sock book. The yarn is Misti Alpaca Hand Paint Sock in shade Queen.
These socks came together pretty easily – I know one looks longer in the image but I think Miss P just pulled one up more. Next up a hat for Miss A (this one). The swatch is currently being blocked.

Finished Socks
I finished my Hermione Socks – I’m not all that happy with how the heel flap went (it’s almost like I was knitting inside out?)

Second Hermione Sock

Plain Vanilla Sock
While trudging my way through the Denim Wrap I was very keen to start knitting another pair of socks, but I was determined to finish one project before I started another (I feel quite smug that I manage to do that). Anyway, I decided I am just going to get started and see where this yarn leads – so far it is top-down and a K2P2 rib.
The yarn is Hungry Hungry Dystopos from Indigodragonfly – let’s not think about the air miles involved in that journey!

I’ve turned the corner
Miss P’s socks are progressing slowly. This is very meditative knitting – I find myself focusing on each stitch.
I did discover while knitting these socks that I have been doing SSK wrong! I could never understand why SSK and K2tog tbl were different (mine certainly weren’t!). I didn’t realise you slip the two stitches knit wise! I had been doing it Purl wise!
I have also finally worked out which way the decreases will lean! SSK is left and K2Tog is right!

Second Attempt at Asymmetric Cables
Astute observers among you would notice that although my sock doesn’t seem to have progressed, I have changed the method of construction. It all went pear shaped – because I didn’t read the pattern properly. I decided that given that I needed to start again I should try the magic loop method (I found great instructions here). I really like it. No more almost taking my eye out with one of the needles or having one of the double pointed needles falling out because I was knitting loosely.
It might also help that I’ve switched to a very nice Addi circular needle rather than the dodgy cheap metals ones from before (you can see them in the image on this page).
While knitting I’ve been watching Parade’s End.

It is beautiful to watch (always good in a period drama), the acting is brilliant and it has a more cynical (or perhaps honest) view of Edwardian England – definitely worth watching.

I’m onto the leg! There’s a bit of a hole where I rejoined the heel to the instep, so I might need to do something else on sock two.
The pattern on the instep and leg is a cross stitch rib (see below)
Cross Stitch Rib – Multiples of 3 stitches
R1: *Skip 1st stitch, knit into second stitch, knit into skipped stitch and then slip both stitches off the needle, P1, repeat from * to end of round.
R2: *K2, P1, repeat from * to end of round
