Dolls

Miss A and Miss P went camping on the weekend. I had 24 hours to myself – at home! I decided to start (and hopefully finish) a sewing project. The doll above is the result. I made each of the girls one. It is a machine embroidery pattern that you use your normal sewing machine to complete. The pattern is from here. The instructions were very comprehensive and easy to follow. Miss A is particularly taken and has been ‘designing’ new outfits for her doll (called Ariel).

I feel re-motivated to finish off a few other languishing projects. My March sock, however, is still on going. It’s going to have to be an April/March sock.

More Christmas Embroidery

This is Miss P’s Christmas embroidery (the design is from here) – I used a christmas print on the Sunbonnet Sue, but the Christmas parts are a bit hidden.

I used two layers of iron-on tear- away stabiliser and it has worked well. I also starched the fabric, which does seam to make a difference.

Christmas Embroidery

It has become a bit of a family tradition that I make Miss A and Miss P Christmas T-Shirts.  The design above is for Miss A – it’s from Bunnycup embroidery. I used two layers of stabiliser, but it still puckered a bit.

I’m stitching Miss P’s at the moment.

Patchwork Card

I’ve made a patchwork card to go with this quilt present.  I foundation piece the block (using my embroidery machine) and then attach it to the card using double-sided sticky tape.

You can find the embroidery files on my Machine Embroidery Page.

Another Finished Object

I finished the T-Shirt for Miss P.

Here is a close up of the front …

The Water Lily blocks were foundation pieced using my embroidery machine – you can find the design here. I attach the block using a blanket stitch (width 2.5mm and length 1.5mm). I also used Vliesofix to get the appliques to stay in place while stitching.

Machine Embroidery

I like to put little embroidery motifs on the back of my girls’ T-Shirts – like this (see the second image). Last night I embroidered four at once – one for Miss P”s T-Shirt and I can store the others for the next project.

The designs are from Designs By Juju.

Water Lily Block

It’s been a very long time since my last post – I’ve had an awful throat infection and had little motivation to craft. The above is four water lily blocks that I’m making for Miss P (Miss A has the Kimono blocks).

Once again I’ve used my embroidery machine to piece the blocks (much easier to get identical blocks that way). The original design is from here.

I’ve added the jef (janome) file to my designs page. I can convert it to other file formats. There is also a tutorial on how to foundation piece using an embroidery machine.

Foundation Piecing

It’s been a while since I posted – mostly due to lack of time because of school holidays.

I have managed to finish another shirt for Miss A. I’ve used a foundation pieced Kimono block.

Here’s a closer image …

The block design is from Linda Hampton Schiffer and Jodie Davis’s book Victorian Quilt Block Designs. I then digitised a machine embroidery design and stitched it out on my embroidery machine. I’ve written instructions on using an embroidery machine to foundation piece here.

I’m quite happy with the results although the block is slightly crooked on the shirt! Now for Miss P – anyone know where I can find a pattern for a foundation pieced dinosaur?

Alphabet Quilt Finished!

I finally finished this quilt for Miss P.

I free-motion quilted the borders and sashing, stitched in the ditch around each block and did straight line quilting on the diagonals of each block (skipping the applique).

I managed to make this quilt entirely from my stash – I’m not sure if this is a good thing or not (at least it’s getting smaller).

I’m now looking around for a new project and I have a few ideas – one involves this fabric …

Quilting the Alphabet Quilt

I’ve started quilting the alphabet quilt. I’ve decided to ‘stitch in the ditch’ around the blocks and free-motion the sashing and borders. I think it will be quite a while before I get this finished.
