I’ve knitted the leg and I’m onto the heel flap. I’m using heel stitch:
R1: *sl1 purl wise wyib k1 * rep from * to the end
R2: sl1 purl wise wyif purl to the end
I’ve read that this makes a much sturdier heel – not sure why, but I’m prepared to give it a go.
If I’m to finish a pair of socks by the end of the month, I need to get one finished this weekend – the pressure is on!

My self-imposed goal of knitting a pair of socks a month (like the Yarn Harlot) might have been over-ambitious. I’m knitting very slowly – it’s school holidays (so just as I get the pattern sorted in my head a little person demands my attention) and it is very hot and humid (not good weather for knitting).

I failed to finish my olympic challenge! I finished one sock, but I haven’t even started the second one.
Was I overly ambitious? It was certainly very hot here (it was 42° C on Thursday) which isn’t conducive to knitting. But really I didn’t put in enough time – it didn’t go well and I got discouraged.
I was very unhappy with the yarn – there was a join in it! And it hasn’t been dyed very well. However, it is very comfortable.

My knitting has all gone horribly wrong – the cables were a complete mess. I’ve ripped the whole thing and I shall start again. This time round I’m going to use bamboo needles and I’m just going to knit a stocking stitch sock – the wool is so slippery I think anything else is beyond me.

On my third attempt I managed to cast on 48 stitches and join it into a round without twisting. Yes that’s right – my third attempt – surely I would have been disqualified if I didn’t make it on my third attempt?
I think I’ve been overly ambitious with my plan. It suddenly occurred to me that I would need to make two socks!
