This is my second sock and you can see no holey gussets – I picked up an additional two stitches (each side) into the leg as per Kate Atherley’s instructions in the Custom Socks book.
Back to my first knitting love – socks
I finally finished my hap (images once I have blocked it) and have returned to my first love – socks!
I was going to knit a version of Helen Stewart’s Fragment socks, but the pattern disappeared in the colour changes. So I have gone with an almost plain vanilla sock – it is knit 6, purl 1.
The yarn is Mad Tosh Night Hawk, which (sadly) has been discontinued.
I have knitted this from the top down, which is my preferred method, but I seem to have a holey gusset. Kate Atherley’s book Custom Socks has a few ideas about this, so I will try those on the second sock.

Kindle Oasis Cover
I bought a new kindle – the Oasis – because it was light and water-proof (and I think it will help with my storage issues). In the past I have bought a cover at the same time, but they didn’t have any in stock and the whole point of this kindle is that it is light, so I didn’t want to lose that by adding a cover. However, I did want to cart it around in my handbag and so wanted to ensure the screen didn’t get scratched.
So I decided on a quilted zipper bag. I cut the wadding to the right size and quilted directly onto to it. I then lined the bag so the wadding wasn’t visible on the inside.
Stash Overload
There are many talented independent yarn dyers (like Saltwater Yarns, Dingo Dye Works and Fiber Lily – just to list the Australian ones I know) and I am a sucker for a pretty sock yarn. Consequently my stash is large – 23 skeins. I know we all have different levels of tolerance for the size of our stashes, but I am starting to feel over-whelmed. I realise that socks are my first love – and I am going to spend July concentrating on knitting socks from my stash (this might mean avoiding the fabulous Calico and Ivy – they have a magnificent yarn collection and I never leave empty-handed.
I also like to buy souvenir sock yarn (three of the above skeins I bought on holiday) and I am not going to stop doing that, so I do need to stop buying pretty the rest of the time.

What it should look like – image from https://katedaviesdesigns.com/2014/05/17/a-hap-for-harriet/
I can’t decide – stick with this (I have finally made it to the decrease section) or start the Fragment socks – I have a Mad Tosh Merino Light (in Night Hawk shade) – But if I move on will I ever go back?

Halloween Cat
This is my latest cross stitch project – this is what it is meant to look like …

Halloween Cat – Satsuma Street
I am working on 25 count Dublin linen from Zweitgart – in the natural colourway. At first I thought I would do one over one (one strand of thread over one strand of the fabric), but it was just too small for me, so I am doing two over two. It is easy and the pattern is delightful to do – big chunks of colour and once you’re started it is easy to move from place to place.
Satsuma Street do fabulous, bright and colourful designs – check out her Etsy store (you can download the designs as pdfs).

Hap for Harriet
This has become my go to easy knitting (drinking knitting). I am in the middle section and the pattern is easy to remember. I now knit this whenever I am watching television.
After each 12 row repeat I way the yarn (don’t know why as I know they each weigh about 5g), but I still have a way to go before I start decreasing.
I bought the Ebb and Flow kit from Fibre Lily – the yarn is more beautiful in person, so keen to get started on that, but I need to finish this first.

Hap Progress
I have been working on Kate Davies’ Hap for Harriet – as it’s all knit stitch, I thought it would be easy, but it has taken me a while to find my rhythm. I am into the central section now and it has just now become easier (in fact I could almost call it drinking knitting!).
The yarn I am using is a misti alpaca lace weight (beautiful, but it is like knitting with dental floss).

Cat’s Meow
I think these are going to be the death of me.
This is what they should look like …
I have finished one -except the embroidery – and I have started the second one three times! They’re very small and there is lots of yarn hanging off the back.

Winter Rose Socks Finished
These are the Winter Rose socks from the Hand Made Sock Society – the toes are a bit pointy for my taste, so if the next pattern (Magnolia Socks) has the same shape I will alter it.
My plan was to knit Green Gables socks by Louise Tilbrook, but I think I will knit the Fragment socks from the latest Laine magazine.
