May/June and now July socks

Oh dear! A pair of socks a month has completely fallen by the wayside.

I have finished one sock and I’m about a quarter of the way through the other! I’ve been watching North and South while knitting – what a fantastic adaptation)

On a completely different topic I did buy some lovely Alpaca yarn while on holiday in Balingup (shade 940) .

February Socks

February is a short month. I’ve decided to knit a sock with chunky yarn and a short leg!

The yarn I’m using is Yoshie (it was left over from my hot water bottle cover). The  image above is the tension square. My gauge was 4 stitches/inch.

I’ve calculated that I need to cast on 32 stitches – it worked out at 34, but it is always better to have a number divisible by 4.

To calculate the number of stitches I measured the circumference of my leg (just above my ankle), subtracted half an inch (because I want my socks to fit snugly) and multiplied by the gauge.

Stash Addition

Knit is having a sale. I picked  up 10 balls of Desert Garden Aran Cotton (this is Parakeet colour) for $25

And an unlabelled silk, alpaca, merino mix (10 balls $25). Definitely worth visiting.
