Asymmetirc Cables Version 2

Second Attempt at Asymmetric Cables

Second Attempt at Asymmetric Cables

Astute observers among you would notice that although my sock doesn’t seem to have progressed, I have changed the method of construction. It all went pear shaped – because I didn’t read the pattern properly. I decided that given that I needed to start again I should try the magic loop method (I found great instructions here). I really like it. No more almost taking my eye out with one of the needles or having one of the double pointed needles falling out because I was knitting loosely.

It might also help that I’ve switched to a very nice Addi circular needle rather than the dodgy cheap metals ones from before (you can see them in the image on this page).

While knitting I’ve been watching Parade’s End.

It is beautiful to watch (always good in a period drama), the acting is brilliant and it has a more cynical (or perhaps honest) view of Edwardian England – definitely worth watching.

Sock – Asymmetric Cables

Start of Asymmetric Cables

Start of Asymmetric Cables

I’ve started a new sock project eventually they should look like this …

AsymetricCables2

How they Look in the Book

The pattern is Asymmetric Cables from The Sock Knitting Master Class. So far I have impressed myself by having the right number of stitches whenever there is an increase of decrease!

I can’t say where the wool is from (I’ve lost the label!).

The Year That Was … 2012

SewWitty's 2012

SewWitty’s 2012

Well another year is ending. When I look back I’m a bit disappointed by my output. Only two quilts were finished and four knitted items. I did try a few things which went no where (February jumper) and I have improved my digitising skills (with little to show for it).

Next year I want to finish

  • Miss A’s Plus Quilt
  • Baby Clothes Quilt
  • Master knitting socks using the magic loop method.
  • Master knitting socks two at a time
  • Attempt colour knitting
  • Finish digitising my foundation quilt blocks and release the set.
  • Start working on a new embroidery set – something modern without too much fill.

Jane is Finished

Jane Cardigan

Jane Cardigan

I finished the Jane cardigan! I am pleased with how it turned out – and the construction was intriguing.

The pattern is from here (You might need to be a member of Ravelry to see the pattern). I bought the yarn from Spotlight – it is Patons Zhivago (Charcoal colour).

It fits Miss A perfectly, which means that it won’t fit for long, next time I will make a size bigger than I think I need.

Guess What Arrived in My Letter Box?

My Colours of Shetland arrived earlier this week – it was super fast delivery.

I’ve been reading Kate’s blog for a while and I am always amazed at what a prolific knitter she is! I’m not sure if I am just an incredibly slow knitter or terribly inefficient, but I can’t produce even a quarter of what Kate does.

I’m very keen to attempt some colour knitting next year and I shall read this book with interest – although they might all be beyond me!

On another note school holidays have started and things will probably slow down here a bit. Miss A is still feeling poorly – it’s been two weeks – but the GP assures me it’s just a virus.

Jane Cardigan Update

Miss A has been unwell, which has meant time at home sitting on the couch. So a small amount of knitting is getting done.

I have finished the body of the Jane cardigan and have started on the sleeves. As the sleeves are quite short, the end appears to be insight.

Snail Trail

Snail Trail in Progress – Pieced in the hoop using an embroidery machine

My next digitising project is a snail trail block. I have made one before, but I want these new blocks to be a consistent size. While digitising I was a bit daunted by all of the lines on the screen, but in the end it was very easy and only needed one revision.

Finished Snail Trail

I like how this block turned out and stitching it out wasn’t too fiddly.

Project Update

Fussy Cutting Baby Clothes

This project (making a quilt from the girls’ baby clothes) seemed like such a good idea. What could go wrong? Baby clothes are cute therefore the quilt would be cute. The clothes are cute, but they don’t necessarily mix well together. And then there is the cutting! Oh the cutting. I’m 2/3 of the way through the cutting and then comes the designing, the sewing, making a back and the quilting. There is a long way to go!

I have almost finished this cardigan – Miss A wanted a bolero cardigan who am I to complain!
